Resumen

La Estadística es una herramienta importante en las investigaciones, su enseñanza es trascendental para los profesionales de la salud. Los estudiantes de enfermería generalmente no se sienten motivados por la asignatura. Una vía para mejorar estas dificultades es a través de la aplicación de la alternativa del aprendizaje significativo. Material y método: Se realizó un estudio exploratorio longitudinal de septiembre del 2009 a marzo del 2010 en estudiantes de enfermería de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas Dr.Salvador Allende con el objetivo de contribuir al perfeccionamiento del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la Estadística Descriptiva en los estudiantes de segundo año de la carrera de enfermería mediante la aplicación del Aprendizaje Significativo. Principales instrumentos: guía de observación de clases, entrevista a estudiantes para medir el nivel de satisfacción de las clases recibidas, monitoreo de la calidad de las clases de informática en salud. Resultados: Mejoramiento de la calidad de los trabajos científicos, incremento de la motivación por la asignatura, manifestándose en los resultados de las visitas a clases y en la entrevista final aplicada. Conclusiones: La aplicación del aprendizaje Significativo en la enseñanza de la Estadística Descriptiva puede favorecer el aprendizaje de esta asignatura en la carrera de enfermería a partir de la interdisciplinariedad entre Informática y Enfermería.

Abstract

Statistics is a very important tool for research and its teaching is transcendental for public health professionals’ .Our nursing students are generally not highly motivated by this subject so a good way to solve this situation is through the application of the meaningful learning alternative. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A longitudinal exploratory study was made to the second year nursing students fromthe medical faculty ” Dr Salvador Allende” from Sept 2009 to March 2010, with the objective of contributing to the improvement of the teaching- learning process in  the subject of Descriptive Statistics by means of the use of the meaningful learning. MAIN INSTRUMENTS:  Class observation guide, interview to the students (to evaluate the level of satisfaction with the classes they had received) and monitoring of the quality of Informatics classes in health. RESULTS: Improvement of the quality of researches, increasing of the motivation in class, whose results were shown in the visits to classes and in the final interview. CONCLUSIONS: The use of the meaningful learning in the teaching of Descriptive Statistics and the interrelation of both subjects Informatics and Nursing can favor the learning of this subject in the Nursing career students.
